The Temple has always felt forced to me. It just IS. Dogen is just a pretty superfluous character. He has no right to be in the flash-sideways with the Losties if Eko and Michael can't be. I realize Eko had other acting commitments, but it still bugs me. The Temple scenes remind me of the cages in Season 3. They just feel slow, but this time the Losties are choosing to stay there willingly, which makes it a little more merf-ed

Re: Staying Lost After Lost – The Life and Death of Jeremy Benthem / LaFleur

Hi,

my name is Jess Smart Smiley and I'm an illustrator and avid Lost fan, living and working in Utah. I'm working on a look n find book based on Lost (like Where's Waldo?, but Lost) and thought you might like to know about it, since you're re-watching the entire show.

The book will be filled with scenes, characters, and items from the show. Imagine looking for Hurley and Sawyer, ankhs and Apollo bars in full color, hand-drawn scenes!

I'll be self-publishing the book and running it as a project on Kickstarter and wanted to see if you'd be willing to help spread the word about our favorite show? Remember, what Mikail says doesn't contradict Jacob, it actually confirms that Jacob purposely did not put candidates (or flawed people) on his list because he wanted them to remain separate from The Others - probably so the candidates could go on their own journey and find their own way to the role of Protector. Hell, Locke was special in the eyes of The Others and Jacob didn't put him on the list because his purpose was not to be their leader but to be a candidate to be Protector. It's also another example of Jacob completely misleading people or at least not telling anyone about the true nature of his actions. I do believe that Jacob gave The Others that list that Pickett and Mikail referred to though - I think he was taking "good" people, possibly to try to create a "good" society in an effort to prove MIB wrong. This is probably even what Ben is referring to when he says "we're the good guys, Michael" (although I think he may have also been referring to The Others as good as opposed to Widmore and his men, who he knew was looking for the island at that time).

It's really interesting how something like the list is mentioned in season 3, and we really don't understand it until the series is over , or at least until after Jacob talks to the candidates at the end of season 6. It's really cool to look back and see how hints like these were dropped seasons in advance. Also, I wonder if Claire was chosen as a candidate before she got pregnant and was just crossed off when she gave birth to Aaron. She had some "mommy issuses" before she got to the island.

Re: WTAL Rewatch Podcast – “Stranger in a Strangeland” & “Tricia Tanaka is Dead”

I agree that Strange in a Strange Land was not Lost at its best, but I think Tricia Tanaka is Dead was a wonderful character driven episode, and since this show really is mostly about how these various characters grow and change and heal, I thought this was an important episode. I haven't seen any of the episodes since they first aired (I did watch the show from the Pilot on) so I could be wrong about this, but this episode seems, to me, to be about how Hurley finally begins to overcome the pain of his father's desertion AND overcomes the "curse" of the numbers that has plagued him since he won the lottery. I believe that his courage in facing possible death with hope that the careening van would start (unlike the car he tried to start as a boy) was rewarded by the Island with a joyful victory over some of his inner demons. So, to me, this was an important episode.

Re: Staying Lost After Lost – Stranger in a Strange Land / Tricia Tanaka is Dead

Tricia Tanaka is Dead is my favorite episode! Kate's episode about seeing the black horse when the marshal is driving causes the EM or whatever to make her see a horse on the island. Maybe Walt's talent/mind isn't so developed as the others that it takes for him to actually read the comic book with the polar bear in it to cause it to exist on the island.

As a side note, I'm still ticked off that Sun, who had the perfect opportunity to tell Jin that she had an affair about 2 or 3 different times, opted to hold out and let Juliet have that ammo and slam it in her face, getting everyone ticked off in the process.

Erik

Re: Staying Lost After Lost – “The Cost of Living”

Hey gals. Your podcast is great and I love listening to it. In response to your conversation about the monster vs eko interaction in the show I think I have this figured out.

I've thought about this and I've come to the conclusion that the monster has never killed someone who is a candidate. It was clearly stated that he can not kill the candidates. They are protected by Jacob. The confusion about this is his name "tunde" on the wheel. I believe this is eko's last name. Remember, yemi could have been a candidate also. The rules of the writers cannot be broken. The last explanation should be trusted. If the monster could not directly kill a candidate then eko was not a candidate.

Moving on. I believe the monster has the same methods. It comes to you in the form of someone who has passed (dogen stated this) and offers you what you really wan deep down. For Ben it was the forgiveness from his daughter. Eko, was a confession to his brother. Sayid was Nadia. Claire was her son. Jin and sun each other, Sawyer and Kate to leave. Oddly enough he couldn't offer jack and Hurley anything.

His tactic did not work on eko. Seeing as he was not a candidate he was no use to him. The means of him dying by being smashed against the trees violently in the shape of a cross was like the monster mocking eko's faith. This was the first time I felt the monster was sentient.

Just my view.

Re: WTAL Rewatch Podcast – A Tale of Two Cities

I'm on Season 2 episode 3 rewatch.

Re: WTAL Rewatch Podcast – A Tale of Two Cities

I'm not that far in my re-watch. I just got into Season 2 and I have really been enjoying it.
